Sew Liberated

Sew Liberated began in a drafty adobe house on a street without a name in rural northern Mexico. The year was 2007, and Meg was working as a Montessori teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. With no internet, television, or phone line, Meg spent much of her time honing her sewing and knitting skills. Eventually, she started a blog and began selling patterns based on her designs. Sew Liberated was one of the first indie pattern companies to emerge from the crafting renaissance, and hopes to remain a small, friendly, and fashion-forward presence in the indie designer community.

Sew Liberated - Aida Top - Sizes 2-20

Wear it tucked in to slouchy pants or a skirt, style it loose over jeans, or cinch it with a belt - the Aida is a wardrobe work horse.  An Aida sewn up in a lightweight chambray or a Liberty lawn will become a handmade favorite.  Make it with silk crepe de chine for work or an evening out. With two variations to choose from - flat front or slightly gathered bodice and back, you can pair the Aida with just about anything.  The top is a quick sew - feel free to omit the buttonholes, as it can easily slip over the head.

Suggested Fabrics:  Fabric with a soft drape, such as silk crepe, cotton voile, rayon challis, lightweight chambray, lawn, or double gauze.

It is the perfect project for those new to sewing pants, as the fit is very forgiving.

Sew Liberated - Stasia Dress and Top - Sizes 0-24

A knit dress that feels like wearing secret pajamas. Optional pockets. Multiple sleeve and length options. A close-fitting tee perfect for layering. A pattern-hacker's canvas. Tons of tips for sewing with knits. And a lot of love - wrapped up into one amazing pattern! Get your sewing machine humming, and find let your inner beauty shine through to the outside with the Stasia Dress.

The Stasia's secret is a v-front bodice, which highlights the smallest part of the waist and provides plenty of room below for beautiful bellies (I call mine the empty baby house!) Wearing your Stasia Dress, your belly and hips will be free to hike, dance, and do all sorts of wonderful activities while still feeling like a million bucks.

Suggested Fabrics: Fabric needs at least 40% stretch and quick recovery.  For a flowy, soft dress or shirt, choose a fabric with rayon or bamboo content, in addition to spandex.  For a more structured dress (and if you choose to add pockets) look for a mid-to-heavy weight fabric with at least 40% stretch and good recovery such as French terry, cotton jersey or ponte.

Sew Liberated - Metamorphic Dress - Sizes 0-24

The Metamorphic Dress is a wardrobe-building dress for all seasons. Featuring a high/low waist seam and complete reversibility, it's inspired by the possibility of layers - wear it with the tiered skirt and patch pockets, or flip it inside out and enjoy a basic, single-layer pinafore with in-seam pockets. Layer it over jeans, leggings, or a mid-length Stasia Dress, or layer it under your favorite woven tee or knitted cardigan. Wear it on the beach over your swimsuit or favorite short-sleeve, fitted knit tee. The fit is easy, with no bodice darts and plenty of room for the waist. (It is drafted for a D-cup and below.)

Suggested Fabrics: Fabric with a nice drape, such as sand washed rayon or silk noil. For a more structured dress you can use cotton ikat or linen.
